Every woman will go through the menopause and every woman has a different experience of it. A lucky few will get through it without too many symptoms, but for the majority of women, menopause symptoms can be unpleasant and even debilitating.

The average age that women go through the menopause is 51, though many will notice changes and symptoms for years before this. Once it sets it, it can go on for years, and it can seriously disrupt day to day life. 

But menopause is not an illness to be ‘cured,’ it’s a change of life, and hypnotherapy can help you end the misery. 

Menopause symptoms

Contrary to belief, menopause is not just about hot flushes. Many women suffer from night sweats, insomnia, fatigue, anxiety, depression, problems with memory and concentration, mood swings, weight gain, and more. This can really affect quality of life, as well as their working life, and relationships. 

Traditional treatments 

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) works very well for some women, but for others, the risks outweigh the benefits. Other women go to their doctor only to be prescribed the contraceptive pill or antidepressants, and they can leave the surgery feeling not listened to, and no further forward. 

Lifestyle changes and herbal remedies are also options. Lifestyle changes like taking more exercise and avoiding smoking and alcohol can certainly help alleviate symptoms, but the evidence on how effective herbal remedies are is lacking. 

How hypnotherapy can help with menopause symptoms

One treatment that research says is effective in reducing menopause symptoms is hypnotherapy. Research conducted at Baylor University in the US in 2012 found that hypnosis could reduce hot flushes by as much as 80%, as well as reducing anxiety and depression, and improving the overall quality of life. 

Hypnotherapy is very effective at addressing any underlying issues, like negative beliefs around the menopause like ‘my life is over,’ ‘I’m past it’ etc and replacing them with positive ones. The menopause is a transition, not an ending, and hypnotherapy sessions can reframe it as such. Hypnotherapy can also improve wellbeing by reducing stress and anxiety, helping you sleep better, and helping you manage symptoms like hot flushes and night sweats.
