Accept Yourself: What Hypnotherapy Can Do for the LGBT Community

June is Pride month, so I wanted to write a blog on what hypnotherapy can do for the LGBT community.

Research has shown that people in the LGBT community are more likely to suffer from stress, anxiety, and depression than other population groups.                         

Despite the huge amount of progress that has been made in terms of legal rights and spreading the message of love and acceptance, people in the LGBT community still experience discrimination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

But it’s not just a lack of acceptance from others in society that contributes to mental and emotional ill health among LGBT people, it’s the struggle they have accepting who they are themselves.

Being comfortable in your own skin is so important for a happy and healthy life, and when you aren’t, feelings of depression and anxiety can arise. The internal conflict many in the LBGT community feel, combined with the external pressures of society can lead to problems like substance abuse, self-harm, or even suicide.

This is why it’s so important that LGBT people get the help and support they need. If you are in the LGBT community, did you know that hypnotherapy can help with many of the issues that you might face, from self-acceptance to having the confidence to come out to family and friends?

How hypnotherapy can help LGBT clients                           

Many of the issues that LGBT clients face are actually the same things I see many other clients for. Many struggle with things like self-acceptance, body confidence, and fear. But it can also help with issues that are specific to LGBT people, including:

  • Accepting your sexual orientation or gender identity: This can be very difficult and emotional. Hypnotherapy can help you work on accepting who you are and having the confidence to present this to the world and live authentically.
  • Dealing with guilt and/or fear: Whether you have recently came out or you did so years ago, hypnotherapy can help you. Are you plagued by feelings of guilt that you’ve somehow ‘let your family down’ or is there something else blocking you from being your true self? Hypnotherapy can help you get to the bottom of it and help you heal.

Hypnosis can help you love and accept yourself for who you really are, and during sessions, we’ll focus on the positives around this as well as helping you deal with uncomfortable or troubling thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. Remember though, that hypnotherapy and the road to self-acceptance is a journey, so enjoy the process of getting to know and love yourself better, and you might just see your world differently.
