Kinesiology: A Modern-Day Treatment for a Modern-Day World
In my line of work as a clinical hypnotherapist, I meet so many interesting and inspirational people. Many of whom practice holistic therapies. Like hypnotherapy, these therapies don’t just look at the problem someone has. They look deeper to other aspects of someone’s life that may be affecting them. In the case of hypnotherapy, into the deep subconscious.
I am delighted to introduce a guest blog from the wonderful Linda Hoyland. She is a kinesiologist. Here she explains what kinesiology is, and why it’s a modern-day treatment for a modern-day world.
Why I love what I do
I’ve been a kinesiologist for nearly 20 years and the thing I love about it, is that it uses so many different approaches that the body really has no option but to let go of its old unhealthy ways, and make way for new ones that will make you feel healthier and happier.
What is kinesiology?
Kinesiology is a truly holistic therapy, and it’s a powerful and effective way to achieve good health and vitality. Unlike a lot of other therapies, it started being widely practised fairly recently. It came about in the 1970’s, when a forward- thinking chiropractor began exploring the connection between the muscles, organs and their related meridians. He realised that by correcting imbalances in the muscles in the body, the corrections he used would also increase the blood and lymph flow to the nearby related organs, so they would get more nutrients, release toxins and they would function much more efficiently.
As he and other early pioneers explored further, they used muscle response testing to detect wider problems in the body and also to see how the body naturally prefers these problems to be corrected. Mind blowing? Yes, it certainly is!
How does kinesiology work?
To illustrate how kinesiology works, let’s look at headaches, which are a common problem these days. The cause of headaches for one person might be being sat at a desk all day, hunched over a computer, for another person, the trigger could be stress at work or home. Some people can get headaches because of food intolerances, or it may be that their energy fields are out of balance.
With kinesiology, we can treat each of these people as individuals. They might have the same health complaint, but the treatments that they need are quite different.
What is involved in Kinesiology treatments?
Kinesiology uses a range of corrections, using points of reference on the body as a guide. The treatments will employ a range of techniques such as concentrating on acupressure points, emotional releases, affirmations, using flower essences, aromatherapy oils, meridian flows, chakras, and much more. The idea is that the body will tell you what it wants and needs.
Kinesiology also encompasses techniques that help to get rid of unwanted belief symptoms and behaviours, which if left untreated can lead to health problems in the physical body. It’s in this way that kinesiology employs techniques from other treatments.
Making a difference to people’s lives
When people come to me, they want to find answers to the issues they have, and there’s one technique that I find works really well for food intolerances and hay fever. Problems such as these are caused by the immune system overreacting to substances that might not bother other people. The technique helps to change the body’s response to the offending food or allergen, so it has a huge potential to make a difference to people’s health and to their quality of life.
A modern-day therapy for a modern-day world
Life today is much faster paced and full on than it used to be even 20 years ago. Did you know there is more information in the average daily newspaper than medieval man would have taken in in a lifetime? We are constantly bombarded by information. This can cause significant stress. A bit of stress can be good for us, but in the course of modern life, it seems we can be under stress constantly which can have an impact on our physical and mental health.
