Could Your Aches and Pains Be Down to Stress? Hypnotherapy Could Help!
Life can be stressful. You might lose your job, split from your partner, or experience a bereavement, as well as having to deal with everything else life throws at you.
Over time, stress and the negative emotions that go with it can take their toll on your physic
al health. Many health conditions and nagging aches and pains can be attributed to stress. Stress causes the release of hormones into the body which can actually stop the body from healing.
When clients come to me with physical pain or chronic health conditions, I always talk to them about stress because they don’t necessarily equate their back pain with feeling low, or their headaches or stomach ache with being anxious. Sometimes I can see a little light bulb moment where they realise that stress is the underlying cause of things they might have been taking medication for over a number of years.
Hypnotherapy could help!
The good thing is, once you realise that stress is the problem, you can take steps to reduce it and gain some control back. Hypnotherapy sessions are deeply relaxing and can considerably reduce stress. Not only that, hypnotherapy taps into the subconscious and helps identify and reframe unhelpful ways of thinking. Until you delve into what lies underneath your stress, you won’t be able to deal with it effectively.
How stress manifests in the body
Studies have examined what types of emotions cause certain types of physical pain. Here’s a guide on what might be underneath your physical aches and pains, and what you can do about it.
Stress is a common trigger for migraines and headaches. Think about whether you’ve got too much on your plate-you might need some time out. Try to find ways to relax that work for you.
If you’re your own worst critic, you might end up with pain in your neck. Start working on being compassionate towards yourself. Forgive yourself, forgive others, and you might just find some peace (and pain relief.)
Many people hold stress in their shoulders, or have ‘the weight of the world on their shoulders’ as the saying goes. If you have shoulder pain, you’re carrying a burden. Do you always try to do everything yourself? It might be time to ask for some help.
Upper back pain
The upper back is related to emotional support, and if you have pain there, it signals that you don’t feel loved or supported. Reach out to your family and friends, go out on a date, and show the world everything you have to offer.
Lower back pain
If you have pain in your lower back, it might not just be your age or the fact that you slept awkwardly. Lower back pain can be related to financial stress. Is it high time you had a pay rise? Do you need to cut back on your spending? Remedy your money issues and it might put an end to your back pain.
Are you stubborn or a little bit rigid in your thinking? If you have elbow pain, this is where it could be coming from. Learn to compromise and go with the flow a little more and see if your elbow feels good as new again.
Do you find it difficult to reach out to others and connect with them? Maybe it’s time to make new friends or make more of an effort with the ones you already have.
Fear of change can manifest as hip pain. Stiff hips can mean you literally don’t want to move forward or make a big decision. What have you always wanted to do, but you’ve held back because you’re afraid? Now might be the time to give it a go!
Do you often let your ego get the better of you? Are you a little too proud of your own achievements at times? This could be behind your niggly knee. Of course it’s not a bad thing to feel good about something you’ve achieved, just be sure to let others have their moment in the spotlight too.
Are you holding a grudge, feeling jealous or envious, and not taking the time to appreciate what you have? That’s what might be causing that pesky pain in your calf. Learn to let things go and be grateful for what you have and you might notice the pain just goes away.
Do you deny yourself things in life? Do you resist eating treats? Do you not buy yourself things because you feel it’s indulgent? Well now might be the time to relax a little and allow yourself some of the good things in life.
Pain in the feet is linked to negative thoughts and feelings. To combat this, look for the little moments of joy in your everyday life that often get overlooked; like feeling the sun on your face or your first sip of coffee in the morning. The more joy you discover, the less pain you’ll feel in your body.
